Router घर या office में रोज चलता है, लेकिन उसके software पर ध्यान अक्सर तभी जाता है जब कोई समस्या दिखती है। Firmware router के अंदर चलने वाला software है। Update में security, stability या feature improvements आ सकते हैं; इसका मतलब हर बार अधिक internet speed मिलना नहीं है। सही model और सही प्रक्रिया सबसे जरूरी हैं।
पहले समझें: अपना router है या ISP-managed device?
अपने खरीदे router और ISP द्वारा दिए ONT/router की update प्रक्रिया अलग हो सकती है। ISP-managed device के लिए support team से पूछें कि firmware कौन manage करता है और customer को update करना चाहिए या नहीं। किसी दूसरे brand या दिखने में समान model की file उपयोग न करें।
Model और hardware version की सही पहचान
एक model के कई hardware revisions हो सकते हैं। TP-Link की official guide hardware version और purchase region के अनुसार firmware चुनने को कहती है। Device label तथा official management app/page से जानकारी जाँचें। केवल product name या पुराने YouTube tutorial के आधार पर file चुनना पर्याप्त नहीं है।
- Brand और exact model लिखें।
- Hardware version और regional variant जाँचें।
- Current firmware version नोट करें।
- Official support page पर release notes तथा update instructions पढ़ें।
- ISP-managed device हो तो provider की अनुमति और procedure समझें।
Update से पहले काम की तैयारी
महत्वपूर्ण meeting, payment या online class के बीच update शुरू न करें। ऐसी window चुनें जिसमें temporary interruption संभाल सकें। घर/office के बाकी users को पहले बता दें। Manufacturer द्वारा supported configuration backup रखें; sensitive backup file सुरक्षित रखें और publicly share न करें।
Current settings लिखना भी उपयोगी है, ताकि update के बाद आवश्यक configuration की तुलना कर सकें। इसमें Wi-Fi name, operating mode और आपके बदले हुए non-secret settings शामिल हो सकते हैं। Password या ISP credentials किसी public screenshot में न रखें।
Official method का उपयोग करें
कुछ routers official app या management page से online update देते हैं; अन्य में manual file upload होता है। TP-Link की guide इन दोनों methods को device support के अनुसार अलग करती है। अपने exact model का तरीका अपनाएँ। Manual update में जहाँ manufacturer कहे, Ethernet connection उपयोग करें।
Update चल रहा हो तो power बंद न करें और आवश्यक cable न निकालें। Device के अपने completion/restart instructions का पालन करें। किसी fixed duration को सभी routers पर लागू न मानें। Failure आए तो error लिखें और official support से संपर्क करें; random firmware files आजमाना उचित नहीं है।
Update के बाद पाँच checks
- Management page/app में installed version देखें।
- Phone और laptop से network connect करके जाँचें।
- जरूरी websites, work apps और connected devices चलाएँ।
- Wi-Fi और operating mode settings की तुलना करें।
- समस्या मिले तो exact model, version और error support team को दें।
Automatic firmware updates supported हों तो manufacturer की guidance देखें। Apple भी supported routers के लिए automatic updates की सलाह देता है। ISP-managed equipment में पहले provider की व्यवस्था समझें। Factory reset को update के बाद routine step न मानें; इससे saved configuration हट सकती है।
