घर में मेहमान या छोटे office में visitors internet माँगें, तो main Wi-Fi का password हर बार साझा करना जरूरी नहीं है। Supported router में Guest Wi-Fi अलग network name और password दे सकता है। सही isolation settings के साथ यह visitors की connectivity को आपके private devices से अलग रखने में मदद करता है। केवल “Guest” नाम रख देने से isolation की पुष्टि नहीं होती।
Guest network में क्या अलग होता है?
Guest network router का एक अतिरिक्त wireless network होता है। इसका SSID यानी Wi-Fi नाम और password main network से अलग रखा जा सकता है। Internet connection फिर भी वही रहता है; इससे नया broadband plan या अलग ISP connection नहीं बनता। Local-network access और guest-to-guest communication अलग controls हो सकते हैं। उनके नाम और उपलब्धता model, firmware तथा router/AP mode पर निर्भर हैं।
Setup से पहले यह जाँचें
- Router का exact model और official manual देखें। Guest Network feature तथा isolation options की पुष्टि करें।
- ISP-managed device हो तो provider से पूछें कि कौन-सी settings ग्राहक बदल सकता है। WAN, VLAN, PPPoE या provisioning settings बिना निर्देश न बदलें।
- Printer, shared drive, CCTV/NVR और office computers किन devices से access होने चाहिए, पहले तय करें। Visitors को केवल internet चाहिए तो local access की जरूरत सामान्यतः नहीं होती।
एक practical setup checklist
- Router की official app या documented management interface में Guest Network खोलें। Menu का नाम अलग हो सकता है।
- अलग और सामान्य network name रखें, जैसे Home-Guest। नाम में personal identity या exact address न जोड़ें।
- Strong, अलग password लगाएँ। Supported devices में WPA3 Personal, compatibility के लिए WPA2/WPA3 Transitional, या उपलब्ध न होने पर WPA2 Personal (AES) चुनें। Open/None, WEP और पुराने WPA/TKIP modes से बचें।
- “Allow guests to access my local network” या समान option को visitors की जरूरत के अनुसार देखें। Internet-only use के लिए local access बंद रखें। “Allow guests to see each other” भी अलग option हो सकता है।
- यदि model support करे तो guest duration या bandwidth limit लगाएँ। ये optional features हैं; सभी routers में नहीं मिलते।
- Save करने के बाद अपने phone से guest network पर connect होकर browsing जाँचें। फिर केवल अपने authorized devices पर देखें कि private printer/shared storage जैसी resources अपेक्षा के अनुसार अलग हैं।
AP mode और Mesh में खास ध्यान
एक ही setting हर mode में एक जैसा व्यवहार नहीं करती। TP-Link Deco की documentation में Router mode में guest/main isolation बताया गया है, जबकि AP mode में Allow Local Access control दिया गया है। यह model-specific उदाहरण है। दूसरे routers में internet access और isolation का व्यवहार अलग हो सकता है। Isolation के कारण कोई जरूरी device न चले तो पूरी local access खोलने से पहले manual या authorized technical support से configuration समझें।
Guest Wi-Fi क्या नहीं बदलता?
यह security की एक layer है, पूर्ण सुरक्षा की guarantee नहीं। Devices को updated रखना और router administrator password सुरक्षित रखना भी जरूरी है। Guest traffic उसी broadband connection का उपयोग करता है; visitors के downloads से बाकी users की available bandwidth और plan data usage प्रभावित हो सकते हैं। Business में public Wi-Fi देना हो तो selected ISP के permitted-use terms और उचित managed setup की पुष्टि करें।
अक्सर पूछे जाने वाले सवाल
क्या guest को router admin password देना है? नहीं। केवल guest Wi-Fi name/password दें। Administrator login अलग रखें और configuration के बाद log out करें।
क्या guest network से printer चलेगा? Isolation enabled हो तो local printer discovery/access रुक सकता है। इसी कारण guest और trusted-device जरूरतों को पहले अलग समझें।
